St. Joseph’s College of Engineering started in the year 1994 ranks among the top Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu. The College has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. We are also one of the few ISO 9001:2008 certified institutions. Every year a large number of students from our college win accolades at the National and International level for their projects, cultural and sports achievements besides securing many University Ranks. Many of our students got placements in top notch organizations besides securing admissions in world class Universities in India and abroad. The college has provided enormous support and perpetually encourages in all our endeavors.

About The Mechanical Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in our college was established in the year 1998, with an annual intake of 40 students. The department had 10 faculty members handling the academic and related work then. The intake was increased to 60 in the subsequent year and to 120 in the year 2005. With the growing demand for mechanical engineers, the present intake of 180 has been sanctioned from 2012. The department had a phenomenal growth in the past decade.
There are 44 highly qualified faculty members to impart technical knowledge in various areas of mechanical engineering to the students. Out of 44 faculty members 7 faculty members have acquired their PhD through their active research. About 16 faculty members pursue their research in various fields of Mechanical Engineering. The department is focused towards instilling an everlasting thirst into the students to pursue a carrier in research and development through these faculty members.
Four research projects funded by Naval Research Board (NRB) and AICTE, with a total grant of over Rs.46.15 lakhs have been completed in the department. The department has been accredited by the NBA of AICTE since 2007 with the recent renewal of the status being for 5 years. The Department has state of art laboratory facilities to cater to the research needs of students and faculty members with utmost encouragement from the management.
The Department has active student chapters of SAE, ISHRAE and IWS. We enjoy a symbiotic relationship with many leading institutions and industries in and around Chennai. In line with our policy of keeping abreast with the latest development, the Department conducts workshops, symposia and conferences.
